The 2010 Helsinki Festival is to get a head start with a performance by the legendary Russian pianist Evgeny Kissin at the city’s Finlandia Hall on Saturday 14 August 2010. The repertoire for Kissin’s first recital in Finland will include works by Schumann and Chopin. A mantle bearer of the great Russian piano tradition, Kissin already enjoys legendary status despite his young age and is renowned for his technical prowess and the masterful depth of his expression. Born in Moscow in 1971, Evgeny Kissin gave his debut performance aged 12 and is the recipient of numerous awards, including an honorary doctorate at the Manhattan School of Music (2001) and the Herbert von Karajan Music Prize (2005).
