Hijinx & Blind Summit: Meet Fred

Fred wants to be a regular guy in the real world, to get a job and meet a girl. But Fred is a cloth puppet – so how can he manage it? When threatened with losing his allowance and assistants, Fred’s life begins to spiral out of control. The hilarious humour of the performance arises from the situations and prejudices a puppet faces in the world of humans. Meet Fred is also an allegory about getting caught up in the claws of insane bureaucracy. The cast includes professional puppet theatre artists as well as actors with learning disabilities.

Hijinx is an inclusive theatre group from Cardiff, Wales. Their performances feature actors with learning disabilities alongside professional actors. Their amazing talent is the heart of Hijinx performances, creating thrilling, surprising and provocatively creative art.

The London-based Blind Summit have tenaciously crossed borders and changed people’s perceptions about puppetry and what it can achieve. They use puppetry to invent a new style of theatre and aim to achieve the same high standard of the best theatres employing human actors.

The performance is part of the SAMPO 2018 festival and is realised in co-operation with Puppet Theatre Sampo.
